Gardens

Spectacular outdoor spaces include Bartram’s Garden (the nation’s oldest), the 1,000 acres of Longwood Gardens, the Tyler Arboretum and the Morris Arboretum. The Philadelphia Flower Show, held each March, is the oldest and largest indoor flower show in the world.

 

History

America’s “most historic square mile” is home of the dazzling National Constitution Center, celebrating American freedom. Historic sites are also found at Valley Forge, the Brandywine Valley, Washington’s Crossing, Fort Mifflin and Germantown.

Historic Houses

Philadelphia has a variety of historic houses dating from the Revolutionary period onward. Notable houses include National Trust properties Cliveden and Stenton and the Betsy Ross House, as well as the seven elegant Fairmount Park Houses, considered to be among the finest 18th century houses remaining in America.

The Free Library of Philadelphia, the Rosenbach Museum and Library, The Library Company, the Athenaeum, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the American Philosophical Society are only a sampling of our region’s great libraries.
